Millimeter Graph Paper: uses, sizes and printing tips
Millimeter paper divides each centimeter into ten 1 mm squares, with a medium line every 5 mm and a heavy line every centimeter — the paper engineers and scientists use for precise plots and technical sketches.
How to print it
- Choose the paper size (US Letter, A4, Legal, A5 or Half Letter) and portrait or landscape — the page updates as you change settings.
- Pick the square size, heavy lines every 4, 5 or 10 squares, and whether the grid has a border.
- Add a title or a name/date header if you want, or keep the page plain.
- Click Print / Save as PDF. In the print dialog choose “Actual size” (100%) and turn off “Headers and footers”.
Tips
- Print at the highest quality setting for the cleanest fine lines.
- The grid always ends on whole squares and is centered on the page, so nothing is cut off at the edges.
- Turn off “Fit to page” in the print dialog — otherwise the printer shrinks the squares slightly.

Will 1 mm lines print clearly?
Yes, on a laser or a good inkjet printer at 100% scale. The 1 mm lines are drawn lighter so the centimeter grid stays readable.
Can I print it on US Letter?
Yes — switch Paper size. The grid stays in whole millimeters.
How do I check that the squares printed at the right size?
Measure 10 squares with a ruler. At 100% scale, 10 squares of 1/4 inch measure exactly 2.5 inches, and 10 squares of 5 mm measure 5 cm.
