Hex Map Paper: uses, sizes and printing tips
One-inch hexes sized for tabletop miniatures, for drawing overland maps, hex-crawl adventures and wargame terrain. Each hex can stand for a fixed distance — six miles is a common RPG choice — so travel time is easy to count.
How to print it
- Choose the paper size (US Letter, A4, Legal, A5 or Half Letter) and portrait or landscape — the page updates as you change settings.
- Pick the hex size (measured flat side to flat side) and flat-top or pointy-top orientation.
- Add a title or a name/date header if you want, or keep the page plain.
- Click Print / Save as PDF. In the print dialog choose “Actual size” (100%) and turn off “Headers and footers”.
Tips
- Use smaller 1/2″ hexes for regional maps and 1″ hexes for battle maps.
- Flat-top hexes form straight columns; pointy-top hexes form straight rows — use whichever matches your game or pattern.
- Only whole hexagons are drawn, so the edge of the page stays tidy.
