Writing the numbers 1 to 100 in a grid builds number sense and handwriting at the same time. Only the first box is filled, so students write each number in order and notice how the tens and ones repeat.

How to fill it out

  1. Print the chart.
  2. Have students write numbers row by row.
  3. Check against the hundreds chart.
  4. Try again a week later and compare speed and neatness.

Tips

  • Write the first number of each row (1, 11, 21 …) first as a guide.
  • Use it for skip counting: fill only the 5s, or only the 10s.
  • Turn it into a puzzle: pre-fill some numbers and leave the rest blank.
  • Use pencil so mistakes are easy to fix.
