Spencerian script — the elegant American business hand of the 1800s — uses a slant of about 52° and a small x-height with tall, delicate loops. These guides give 4 mm x-height rows with generous ascender and descender space and closely spaced slant lines.
Spencerian is lighter, with less contrast, a slightly steeper slant (about 52°) and more oval letterforms.
Choose 5–6 mm while learning; reduce it as your control improves.
From top to bottom: the ascender line (dashed), the waistline (top of the x-height), the baseline (darker) and the descender line (dashed). Small letters sit between the waistline and the baseline.
