Guidelines sized for brush pens: a 15 mm x-height with slightly shorter ascenders and descenders and slant lines at 65°. Big brush pens need room — go to 20 mm for large markers or down to 7–10 mm for small-tip brush pens.
Small-tip pens such as a Tombow Fudenosuke work best around 7–10 mm x-height.
Regular copy paper can fray felt tips; print on smooth laser paper or place the guide under marker paper.
From top to bottom: the ascender line (dashed), the waistline (top of the x-height), the baseline (darker) and the descender line (dashed). Small letters sit between the waistline and the baseline.
