Four evenly spaced lines per row, the copybook ruling used to teach English handwriting in many countries. Capitals sit on the third line (the baseline, printed darker) and reach the top; lowercase letters fill the middle band; descenders drop into the bottom band.
The third line from the top, printed darker.
12 mm rows suit beginners; switch to 3/8″ or 1/2″ for older students.
A common progression is 1″ ruling for preschool and kindergarten, 3/4″ for kindergarten to first grade, 5/8″ for first and second grade and 1/2″ from second or third grade. Follow your school’s program if it specifies otherwise.
