Legal Size Lined Paper: uses, sizes and printing tips
Lined paper sized for US Legal sheets (8.5 × 14 inches), ruled like a legal pad with wide lines and a margin. The extra length suits long lists, meeting notes, drafts and outlines. Load legal paper in the tray before printing.
How to print it
- The page opens on US Legal (8½ × 14 in) with wide ruled lines and a margin line 1¼″ from the left — 38 lines, eight more than a Letter page.
- Load legal-size paper in the tray before printing; most home printers have a Legal setting in the paper tray guides.
- Prefer the narrower ruling some legal pads use? Choose College ruled.
- Click Print / Save as PDF, make sure Paper size in the print dialog says Legal, and choose “Actual size” (100%).
Tips
- Legal pads are traditionally yellow — print on yellow paper for the classic look.
- No legal paper? Switch Paper size to US Letter here — the lines are redrawn, and you keep the legal-pad ruling.
- Legal-size lined sheets are handy for long meeting notes, outlines and checklists that would otherwise run onto a second page.

Legal pads are traditionally wide ruled (11/32 inch), the same spacing sometimes called legal ruled.
Can I print it on Letter instead?
Yes. Switch Paper size to US Letter and the lines are redrawn for the shorter page.
Will the line spacing be exact when printed?
Yes, as long as the print scale is 100% (Actual size). The lines are drawn as vector graphics, so they stay sharp and exactly spaced on any printer.
