Lined Paper: uses, sizes and printing tips

Lined Paper printable preview
Free printable Lined Paper

Plain printable lined paper, ready in a second: college ruled lines with a red margin, sized for US Letter. Change the spacing, the margin, the line color or the paper size in the panel and print exactly what you need — one page or a whole stack for the classroom.

How to print it

  1. Start from the default: US Letter, college ruled lines 9/32″ apart and a red margin line 1¼″ from the left edge — about 36 lines per page.
  2. Not sure which ruling you need? Pick Wide ruled for young kids or big handwriting, College ruled for most students and adults, Narrow ruled to fit the most words, or 8 mm on A4 outside the US.
  3. Change the line color or weight, move or remove the margin line, or add a Name & date header for school work.
  4. Click Print / Save as PDF. In the print dialog choose “Actual size” (100%) and turn off “Headers and footers” so the spacing stays exact.

Tips

  • Printing for younger kids? Switch to Wide ruled or to the handwriting paper with a dashed midline.
  • One page covers everyday needs — homework, letters, lists, drafts. For a specific job, the related pages below come preset (notebook, legal, half sheet, landscape).
  • Print several copies at once by setting Copies in the print dialog; the PDF can be reused as often as you like.

FAQ

What spacing is standard lined paper?

In the US, college ruled (9/32 inch, 7.1 mm) is the most common notebook ruling, wide ruled (11/32 inch, 8.7 mm) is used in elementary school, and narrow ruled (1/4 inch) fits the most words per page. Elsewhere 8 mm lines on A4 are standard.

Can I print lined paper on A4?

Yes. Choose A4 under Paper size — the lines are redrawn for the A4 page so nothing is cut off.

Will the line spacing be exact when printed?

Yes, as long as the print scale is 100% (Actual size). The lines are drawn as vector graphics, so they stay sharp and exactly spaced on any printer.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

It is completely free with no sign-up and no download. Change the settings, print it or save it as a PDF, and bookmark the address — your settings are stored in the link.
