Check Register: uses, sizes and printing tips
A full-page check register for tracking a checking account by hand: check number, date, description, payment (−), a ✓ column for cleared items, deposit (+) and running balance. Amount columns have a cents divider so figures line up.
How to print it
- Choose the paper size (US Letter, A4, Legal, A5 or Half Letter) and portrait or landscape — the page updates as you change settings.
- Choose the layout (ledger, check register, cash book or columnar pad), the number of amount columns, the row height and shaded rows.
- Add a title or a name/date header if you want, or keep the page plain.
- Click Print / Save as PDF. In the print dialog choose “Actual size” (100%) and turn off “Headers and footers”.
Tips
- Turn on Shaded rows to make long registers easier to read.
- Each amount column has a light cents divider so decimal points line up.
- Write in pencil while reconciling and ink the final figures.
FAQ
How do I balance a check register?
Start with the current balance, subtract every payment and add every deposit on its own line. When your statement arrives, tick the ✓ column for each item that cleared and compare the balances.
Can I record debit card and online payments?
Yes — write “DEBIT” or “ONLINE” in the No. column and treat them like any other payment.
Can I print it on Legal paper?
Yes — Legal (8.5 × 14 in) gives more rows per page; choose it under Paper size.
