9 Panel Comic Page: uses, sizes and printing tips
The classic nine-panel grid — three rows of three equal panels — gives comics a steady rhythm and suits dialogue-heavy stories, gag sequences and slow, tense scenes.
How to print it
- Choose the paper size (US Letter, A4, Legal, A5 or Half Letter) and portrait or landscape — the page updates as you change settings.
- Pick a panel layout, the gutter width between panels and optional trim and safe-area guides.
- Add a title or a name/date header if you want, or keep the page plain.
- Click Print / Save as PDF. In the print dialog choose “Actual size” (100%) and turn off “Headers and footers”.
Tips
- Break the grid once for a big moment — it lands harder after a regular rhythm.
- Pencil the layout lightly, ink the panel borders last, and let a character or speech balloon break a border for emphasis.
- Turn on trim and safe-area guides if the pages will be printed or sent to a print shop.
